It is a hip bone, probably from the deer that was shot in our back yard last year. You can see the marks from some animal that chewed on it. I love bones. I have a huge collection of them. Is it creepy to display jewelry on old deer bones? Antlers? I have been thinking of doing just that but wanted to get some opinions first.

No I don't think it is creepy. Bones can have interesting colors and textures. I think it would be cool and an unusual display.

I love bones! Bones are sort of creepy by nature but then again I'm sorta creepy like that too so I dig it. I used to collect tiny skulls that I would find on walks in the woods when I was growing up in PA. Birds, squirrels etc. My dad was an avid hunter and we had a drawer full of turkey feet in our basement. no joke.
Love this! Our lab used to find antlers in the woods and bring them home. We had an entire collection on the mantle. Great macro!

I knew that was a bone as soon as I saw the 1st pic! Those bones once ran and that body was alive! Do you live in the country?

I think it would make a very unusual and interesting display tool.

I've always liked pictures of animal bones. I think it's because of the curves and texture that are so visible, which gives them movement, even in death. If Georgia O'Keefe could use them for her paintings, I don't know why you couldn't use them to display your jewelry.
I don't think it is creepy at all. I think it would be a different/neat kind of backdrop to showcase your jewelry.

I totally understand the interest in bones and the stories they tell, BUT I can't think too hard about where the bones came from without feeling a little nauseous. I'll admit that I'm no vegetarian by any means, but there's something about knowing that was a dear bone that the flesh decayed from in your backyard while something CHEWED at it that gives me the absolute WILLIES. I'm just not one of those people who deal well with dead animals. Sorry!
Oh, very cool shots!! I love things like that, but don't collect them ;) Finger them and play with them at junk and antique shows, sure! More than that, not so much.
antlers would make beautiful displays & bones too. go for it! my husband takes no interest in the blogs (including mine)and came over just when i was looking at your pictures. he thought it was so cool! you might have opened his mind a little. timing is everything :-)
Bones are kind of creepy, but then again you cant beat the texture and the neutral colors to show-off a piece of jewelry. I say why not use them as a prop? Cool pics. The gnaw marks make them even better.
There is a time and a place for everything. Antlers would be great because they can come from animals still alive and can be "shed" not only from "dead" animals. Right?
Otherwise, (in my opinion), I might only use bones from dead animals to attract sales from people who like that kind of theme in their adornment.
