Flip It

Good Morning!
Are you struggling with a boring square charm or pendant?

Flip it!

I made these etched copper flower squares, when I went to use them I flipped them and made a diamond.
I think for earrings the diamond shape is perfect because it will elongate the face.

So next time you are stuck for inspiration Flip It!

Finally Friday

Hello and welcome to another Finally Friday!
Wow I can't believe I haven't blogged all week.
I am in transition I guess you could say and I have been feeling very stressed and down. I think that whenever I am standing at a crossroads I become introverted and keep to myself. Which as a nail technician is very difficult to do let me tell ya!

First, we thought we might be pregnant. We are not and although I know that just means it wasn't God's plan I am still bummed.
Second, I have been really stressed out about pricing my jewelry pieces. I don't want to price them too high but after researching the topic to death and doing my taxes I have begun to realize that if I am to ever stop doing nails and start making jewelry full time and selling wholesale and consigning and my ultimate dream of world domination, okay being on tv, I simply must get a new formula for pricing. This is not something I take lightly and it has literally paralyzed me from making anything and from pricing what is made. I know I will figure it out but it isn't easy to put a price tag on my "babies."
Finally, this week at the salon was extremely busy. I had no lunch on Wed and Thurs and ran late on Tues. I never run late so that was stressful and my daughter has been getting up extra early and sneaking off to the living room to play.

Okay, so enough of my tales of woe. I am a bit better now, it's Friday! WooHoo!
I am still at the crossroads with where I want to take my jewelry business but I am starting to get a clearer vision and that makes me happy. I am prepping for my first ever craft fair with etsy so that is stressing me out and I am excited all at the same time.

Now to the Finally Friday reveal:

Design Seeds

This weeks palette was very hard for me to make something for so here is the necklace I came up with. It took about 4 hours to do all the wire wrapping! It is a connected 3 strand necklace, meaning the 3 strands do not come apart. The first strand is the longest and features a star from Nancy Schindler of RoundRabbitExtra. I wire wrapped Swarovski crystal pearls on Vintaj artemetal wire (it's dark gunmetal colored wire, love it).
The third strand is the shortest and features gray faceted rondelle crystals, Swarovski pearls and corrugated metal beads.

The second or middle strand has this woman on the moon charm from Vintaj. On the back of the charm I added polymer clay which I stamped, baked and treated with alcohol inks. I then made the chain from the Swarovski pearls and corrugated metal beads.

I made these super simple earrings with my etched copper discs, glass beads and sterling silver earwires.

Not an easy palette for me and these 2 pieces are not at all what I thought I was going to make as I was thinking of pulling out my keys and keyhole pendants but I simply paralyzed myself with worrying about pricing and all the stress and didn't make much all week. I need to get out of my own head!

Here is the Design-Seeds palette for the week:

Picnic, Rain and Turkey

It has been 2 beautiful days here in NY. I spent the last 2 days home with my little girl playing outside.

Friday was so beautiful that I made us a picnic lunch and threw down a blanket in the backyard.

Today was too windy to have a picnic so we just laid on the blanket squishing ants and talking.

A turkey decided to come by and see what we were doing.

I am sitting at my worktable now and it is starting to rain. I had heard rain for the whole weekend so I am thrilled it held off till tonight. The breeze coming in through the screen door is wonderful.

Today was a rough day. We woke to a huge mess she had made, it's gross so I won't go into detail let me just say bleach was involved. Then she wouldn't nap, there was lots of crying. Then at dinner she stuck her whole hand into the honey jar. The sweet kisses and hugs I got at bedtime made up for it all :-)

Finally Friday 4/20/2012

Welcome to this week's Finally Friday reveal.

I have to let you guy's know that each palette is randomly selected. I don't search through my stash and find what beads I already have and then pick a palette. I open a Design Seeds email randomly and I choose one of the palettes from that email.
Okay now that I have said that I must tell you that this week's palette was hard for me to work with. I wavered between using all the colors and only using 1 or 2 of the colors.

To remind you here is last weeks palette:

indulgent tones
Design Seeds
Yikes, brown and gray and pink! Oh my.
I had a hard time wrapping my head around using all the colors so here is the set I made for this week:

I know it's hard to tell but those peanut seed beads are totally the same color as the first color in the palette and match the button perfectly!

Pendant from Marsha Neal Studio
Handmade button I bought at the Sheep and Wool Festival read more about it here

These earrings came about because of the wire wrapping my friend Cat was making the other day. I wore a similar pair to work the other day and they are looong and fabulous!

Here is next weeks palette from Design Seeds:
Oh how I love this one!

Radio Silent

I am so sorry I was radio silent for a couple days without saying anything.
My husband, daughter, In-Law's and I decided last minute to go away for 2 days.
I don't like to let people know when I am going to be gone because you never know who will then know your house is empty.
So I can tell you now because we are home :-)
We had a nice couple of days relaxing and spending time together.
My daughter actually slept the night which I was shocked by because she has never slept out of her room before, ever.
We shared a room with her and I hope to never do that again.
She is a mover and a shaker. I got no sleep. She may even have brain damage from hitting her head into the wall, slept right through it too!
Anyway, I did get 7 pairs of earrings made, which I will show off as soon as I can get some pics.
I found an old ponds glass jar in the woods hiking, saw salamanders and found some cool fossils.
We watched Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast, ate hot dogs and strawberries.
Here are a pair of earrings I made a couple weeks ago.
The beads are from Pipsjewelry- are they not awesome?

It was a great weekend! Oh and I know it is Monday night but I am off on Monday's so technically it is still the weekend. Oh and I know most of you won't even get to read this till Tuesday morning, which will almost be the weekend again.
So what did you do this weekend and what are you doing next weekend?

Flap Your Wings- Update

Hello, I wanted to get right to showing you guys what I ended up making this morning but alas I got nothin'.

I was able to take a few great pictures of the 2 pendants I made especially for this hop.
The one pendant, as you can see I messed up on the rivet. I think the other came out great.
I had intended on keeping one and auctioning off the other but after messing up on the rivet I have decided to keep both. The one with the mistake will be cut apart and the heart tossed in the garbage. I will probably cut off the bottom part of the wing and toss that in the garbage too. Then I am planning on using the top part for something else.
I think the problem here was that I made the holes too big so I had a hard time finding the proper size rivet. I made my own from copper wire but I am new to rivets so I have some learning to do.
Here are the 2 pieces I made in honor of my friend and mentor Judy.

Here's the one with the messed up rivet:

 Here they are together:

Flap Your Wings

Today is the reveal day for the Flap Your Wings blog hop in honor of Judith Glende.
I have had a hard time creating something with Judy in mind. I am not sure if it is because I am trying to please her or if it is just because she left such an impression on my heart.
I have cut, etched, patina'ed, sealed. waxed, punched, riveted and drilled holes in this pendant and that is as far as I have gotten. I even made 2 of them figuring I would auction one off for charity and the other I would turn into a necklace.
Then when the time came all I could do was sit and stare at them. Would she be proud of what I made?
Would anyone else want to but one?
So much self doubt entered my head I didn't even take any pictures.
I am going to take pictures in the morning, I promise!
I may even make a necklace after sleeping on it.
I tend to do my best work in the morning light, before the chaos of the day gets going.

Finally Friday 4/13/2012

Hello!
Welcome to the Finally Friday Friday the 13th edition!
I am not superstitious. Are you?

Remember this post?
That's where I revealed this week's color palette:

cupcake blues
Design Seeds

When I created the first necklace my husband said, "wow, it's bright. It's pretty but brighter than you usually make."
At first I was a bit disappointed by what he said because I was worried it didn't "fit" into my body of work but then I wore it to lunch with a friend and I really love it. Bright? Yes. Me? Yes. Love? Yes.

So here is that necklace:

Trying a new background

A handmade button that I wire wrapped. A circle link from MarshaNealStudio which I used a lampwork double dipped headpin (can someone tell me who made these?) as a toggle and a squiggly drop in the front. Vintage lucite beads, remember this post? I have been using up this huge stash in almost every piece I have made recently!

Okay, I got a little crazy this week and made a second necklace inspired by this weeks palette. I just love the spring feeling of it. This necklace is super long and really easy to wear. I wore it almost every day this week! I hate to even sell it I love it so much.

I started by stamping Queen Bee to the back of a vintage lucite flower. I added a tiara stamp to the top,  added patina, punched 2 holes and wire wrapped it and the flower together.

I grabbed this flower button and pendant from RoundRabbitExtra. I love the length od this necklace because I found myself playing with the smooth porcelain on this pendant all day long.

A Swarovski Crystal pendant from LimaBeads.com, some more vintage lucite,  a lampwork bead from PinkBeach and VinatjNaturalBrass findings finished this piece off nicely.

I almost forgot to show you the coolest part. I made little charms with my logo on them. They fir on the tip of my thumb, are made of copper and are super cute.

Bang, Bang

I got bangs!
Yes, I did!

For those that don't know me personally I had a pixie haircut about 10 years ago. My hair was only a few inches long. It was very cute but I wanted my long mane back and started the grueling process of growing out my hair.
Along this 10 year path of growing my hair out it has been blonde, red and brown. I have had short bangs, long bangs and no bangs. Most recently I have had no bangs and hair almost to my waist.
Oh yeah and gray hair only in the front :-/
How to you hide gray hair only in the front? Wearing a ponytail is definitely not the way. I do nails so I am pretty much in a ponytail everyday of my life. So you really have 2 choices to hide that gray hair.
1) is to color it every 2 weeks. This is a great idea since I do work with a hairdresser. A very busy hairdresser who hardly has time for her own hair let alone try to fit me in when I only work 3 days a week and have my own clients.
Option 2? BANGS, bangs. Really? Bangs. Well ok then bangs it is!

I looked like this a few weeks ago:

Here is the cut I showed my hairdresser (and very good friend who I knew could totally do this exact cut)
This is Amanda LeBlanc of The Amanda's a show I just love!

Pam cut about 3 inches off the ends, colored it a dark, dark brown (love) and cut fabulous bangs.

Here is the after picture I sent hubby on his cell phone :-)

and another after pic:

So there you have it, I got bangs!

See you tomorrow for my Finally Friday reveal, rocking my totally awesome haircut!
